THEN AND NOW: The Bulldogs finished 8-5 (5-3 SEC) last year, and junior running back Todd Gurley will have to carry his offense when their season kicks off Aug. 30 against Clemson.

THE BUZZ: Mark Richt has quite the challenge ahead — former star quarterback Aaron Murray is no longer in the picture, meaning senior passer Hutson Mason will have to step in to try to replicate his predecessor’s production.

RICHT SAID IT: “Just the fact that Hutson has the respect of his teammates, the confidence of his teammates and coaches, (he is ready) to take on that leadership role.”

THEY TWEETED IT: “Great day with these excellent gentlemen at the SEC media days!! How bout the bow ties!”

THEN AND NOW: After dropping the final two games of the 2013 season, senior QB Bo Wallace will look to carry his squad to the top of the SEC.

THE BUZZ: Wallace returns to the SEC after throwing for 3,346 yards and 18 touchdowns last season, but turnovers plagued the then-junior throughout the year. Freeze said his senior signal caller will fix the issues he faced in 2013, though.

FREEZE SAID IT: “(He needs to) continue to cut down on his turnovers, make sure he’s making smart plays most of the time. The guy has a chance to, you know, own every passing record in Ole Miss history before he leaves there.”

THEY TWEETED IT: “Things heard from Cody Prewitt at #SECMD14 ‘I like to hit people’ #BOOM”

THEN AND NOW: The 2013 season ended in unusual fashion for Nick Saban as his squad lost its Sugar Bowl matchup against Oklahoma. Now Alabama has a new quarterback looking to bring the Crimson Tide back to championship contention.

THE BUZZ: Everyone wants to talk about Lane Kiffin, who was hired as the offensive coordinator this offseason. Saban said Kiffin’s presence will bring much-needed experience.

SABAN SAID IT: “The more experience that your staff has, obviously, I think the better they understand the big picture and have the kind of foresight that you need to have that you know when you make changes, what the cause and effect of those changes are going to be.”

THEY TWEETED IT: “It’s only #SECMD14 not Gameday...but hard to tell in lobby on Alabama Day”
