The #RallyPossum is back ... but did he ever really leave?
No, LSU baseball's prized marsupial didn't find his way to Fayetteville, but its mojo (and hashtag) certainly did. The Tigers rallied from a 7-run deficit against the Arkansas Razorbacks — including 5 runs in the 9th inning — to ignite a Twitter firestorm.
They even squirmed out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the 9th to secure the 10-8 win on Saturday night.
If the storyline sounds familiar, that's because it is. Just over a year ago, also against Arkansas, the legend of the Rally Possum was born (watch a clip from the game here). In that game, a small opossum found its way onto the field, interrupting play for several minutes as players and Alex Box Stadium workers attempted to corral it.
LSU trailed 9-4 at the time, but after the interruption made a furious rally. They scored four runs in the 9th inning to tie the score 9-9, then went on to win 10-9 in the 10th inning. A heady LSU employee — Director of Fan Experience Jason Suitt — quickly thought of flashing the words "Rally Possum" on the stadium scoreboard, giving birth to the phrase, a myriad of hats and shirts, and a rallying cry whenever the Tigers seem lost on the diamond.
Whether players felt the Rally Possum's inspiration or the Razorbacks simply have a hard time closing out LSU is unknown. But for Tigers fans, a win is a win ... #RallyPossum.
