BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — LSU point guard Josh Gray, who has been nursing a sprained right ankle for the past five days, won’t play in Thursday night’s game against UAB in Bartow Arena.

LSU hit the floor for early warmups with Gray dressed in a purple T-shirt and black sweatpants. He was wearing a splint on the right ankle he injured early in the second half of Saturday night’s 76-67 win against Sam Houston State.

Guard Tim Quarterman, who has excelled as the Tigers’ sixth man this season, will slide into the starting lineup with freshman Jalyn Patterson serving as his backup.

Quarterman was also hurt late in Saturday night’s game, but practiced Wednesday night after LSU arrived in Birmingham and also participated in Thursday’s shoot-around after missing practice Monday and Tuesday while being treated for an apparent lower leg injury.
