COSTA MESA, Calif. — Senior Neal Skupski paired with English player Chris Eaton to narrowly defeat his LSU teammates Mark Bowtell and Chris Simpson today at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center in California.

Bowtell and Simpson won the first set 6-4. However, Skupski and Eaton won the second set 6-4 and then won the tiebreaker 10-8.

Doubles main play continues Thursday while Skupski will take on 2011 NCAA singles champion and USC standout Steve Johnson.


FALL SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED: The LSU softball team released its 2011 fall schedule Wednesday highlighted by an Oct. 11 game against the National Pro Fastpitch All-Star team. Admission is free to all eight fall games at Tiger Park.

“Our players are working very hard to improve their individual skills as we get the fall season started,” LSU coach Beth Torina said. “We’re excited to see how the players perform not only individually but collectively as a team during game situations which are difficult to simulate through practice.”

“The NPF game will be a wonderful experience for our players to get to compete against the best players in the world. There’s no doubt that this entire fall schedule will be measuring stick to show us what we’ll need to improve on heading into the spring season.”

LSU returns 17 players from its 2011 roster led by NFCA All-American Third-Team and All-SEC First-Team selection Brittany Mack along with All-SEC Freshman Team pick Simone Heyward. The Tigers had a 40-18 record and made its 13th NCAA regional appearance.
