Continued heavy rains across south Louisiana forced the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to close all hunting seasons, except for the waterfowl seasons, on the Pearl River, Joyce, Manchac and Maurepas Swamp wildlife management areas.
The Pearl River WMA was closed Friday morning. The LDWF took the action after the Pearl River hit a 16.5-foot reading on the Pearl River. The gate at the Old U.S. 11 access point was closed and the advisory indicated the gate will remain closed until the river falls below 16.5 feet and the LDWF determines that “all roads and bridges are determined safe for vehicle passage.”
The Joyce, Manchac and Maurepas Swamp WMAs, closed Saturday morning, are in parts of Ascension, Livingston, St. James, St. John the Baptist and Tangipahoa parishes and will remain closed “until further notice.”
