Saturday’s doubleheader between SU (13-20, 10-8) and Texas Southern was postponed because of rain, moving the two games to Sunday afternoon.
The Jaguars jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with Santos Saldivar on the mound against the Tigers in Game 1, but a seventh-inning spark by Texas Southern proved to be the deciding factor in a 4-2 win.
Southern redshirt junior catcher Jose de la Torre hit a home run in the contest, but a crucial error by the Jaguars in the seventh inning led to three runs for the Tigers.
In game two, Texas Southern took the early advantage, grabbing a 4-1 lead against Southern’s James Fontenot.
Though Southern eventually narrowed the run-deficit to one, the Tigers added a late insurance run to down the Jaguars 5-3.
