Police: 30 pounds of marijuana found after trooper stopped man for speeding

PORTAGE — A 24-year-old California man was arrested Monday after police found about 30 pounds of marijuana in the vehicle he was driving, according to a news release.

Jairo A. De Reuda Martinez, of Chino Hills, California, was stopped about 1 p.m. for speeding on Interstate 80 near Portage, Indiana State Police said.

De Reuda Martinez, who was driving a black 2011 Dodge Durango, appeared nervous, police said.

Portage police K-9 Nakir was called to the scene and indicated drugs might be in the vehicle. Police searched the Durango and found the marijuana in two large duffel bags, the release said.

Approximately 30 pounds of marijuana would have a street value between $24,000 and $36,000, Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez said.

De Reuda Martinez was arrested on suspicion of felony dealing in marijuana and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
