There are oyster-eating and shucking contests, oyster dishes, live music and more at the New Orleans Oyster Festival in Woldenberg Park June 2-3.
Michelle Lesco (pictured, center) won last year's oyster-eating contest by downing 33 dozen in 8 minutes. Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas holds the festival record of eating 47 dozen. The oyster-eating contest is at 11:45 a.m. Sunday. The oyster-shucking contest is at noon Saturday. There's also a largest oyster contest.
The music lineup includes Lost Bayou Ramblers, Shamarr Allen & the Underdawgs, Treme Brass Band, Darcy Malone & the Tangle and others on Saturday. Sweet Crude, Naughty Professor with Sexy Dex, Bag of Donuts and others perform Sunday.
Festival food offerings include Drago's Seafood Restaurant's char-broiled oysters, barbecue oyster po-boys from Red Fish Grill, Buffalo oyster sliders from Superior Seafood, shrimp and alligator sausage cheesecake from Jacques-Imo's Cafe and more.
