Kirkland Signature Champagne Brut Rose_lowres

Retail $25

Kirkland? From France? This bottling is an example of why one shouldn't judge a wine by its label. This wine was developed specifically for Costco, America's largest fine wine retailer, by Janisson Champagne in Verzenay, near Reims, France, the heart of the Champagne region. The firm's house Champagne — bottled under its own name — is sold in the U.S. and Europe. Fruit for this wine was sourced from Janisson's and neighboring vineyards, with 13 percent of the grapes classified as grand cru and premier cru. Kirkland is a blend of pinot noir, pinot meunier and a small amount of chardonnay, which spent 20 months aging on its yeast. In the glass, a delicate mousse of strawberry, citrus and toasty aromas greets the nose. On the palate, one tastes ripe red berries, orange and lemon peel, mineral notes and pink grapefruit. Drink it as an aperitif or with hors d'oeuvres or a variety of holiday dishes. Buy it at: Costco.
