Kara Nelson has been named special sections editor at Gambit Weekly and will produce the newspaper's Home Smart and L'Image pullouts as well as various gift guides, a monthly health and wellness section and a weekly shopping section. She replaces Kandace Power Graves, who is now Gambit's managing editor.

A native of Sulphur, Nelson earned a bachelor of arts in English Literature degree at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. After graduation, she worked on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., for a year before returning to Louisiana in 1996 to work in the editorial departments of Obeat and the now-defunct Tribe Magazine. She later worked as an editor at New Orleans Publishing Group before attending graduate school in England.

Upon returning to New Orleans, Nelson worked in event planning and public relations for six years and, during that time, continued write for various local publications.
