New Orleans' access to health care has improved over the last decade, but there remain significant gaps in coverage and racial disparities in the city's health care system.

A May report from The Data Center found New Orleanians reported more poor mental health days than state and national averages of 4.3 days and 3.6 days, respectively, hospital emergency rooms frequently used to treat mental health crises and other challenges for un- and underinsured patients.
