Each week this summer, the New Orleans Exercist brings you news and events for active living in the Big Easy. This week: New Orleans Boulder Lounge is finally ready to open (almost) and you can learn to fly (really).
- Eagerly anticipated rock-climbing gym the New Orleans Boulder Lounge (1746 Tchoupitoulas St.; www.facebook.com/climbnobl) celebrates its imminent opening tonight with a launch party at 6 p.m. tonight (May 22) at NOLA Brewing (3001 Tchoupitoulas St., (504) 301-0117; www.nolabrewing.com) with beer (of course) and food from Rollin’ Fatties.
- The new Lafitte Greenway bike and pedestrian path includes a public bicycle repair station, which is handy – if you know how to use it. Friends of the Lafitte Corridor hold a how-to workshop on the patio at Mid-City Market (300 block of N. Carrollton Ave.) at 11 a.m. Saturday (May 30). A group bike ride to the French Quarter and back follows at 12:30 p.m. Riders will follow the course of the Greenway and check out the construction progress. (Note: this event is rescheduled from April 18.)
- Bring a friend to try out the impressive-looking acrobatic balances of acro yoga (the elevated partner is known as the “flyer") at the AcroNOLA Festival at Crescent City Aerial Arts (5304 Canal Blvd.; www.crescentcityaerialarts.com) from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday (May 24). For a suggested cost of $10-15, participants can try out sample classes like “Lean On Me” and “(Hand)Stand Up for Yourself.”
- Lululemon (333 Canal St., 504-522-3264; www.lululemon.com) hosts the final in a series of free sunset yoga classes at St. Roch Market (2381 St. Claude Ave.; www.strochmarket.com) at 7 p.m. Wednesday (June 3). Lauren McCabe teaches the class; maximum attendance is 150 people and a limited number of mats are available to borrow.
