Rimon, a new kosher restaurant from chef Daniel Esses, is now open for lunch at Tulane University’s Hillel House (912 Broadway St., 504-232-0758).
The restaurant, whose name means Pomegranate in Hebrew, launched a soft-opening and lunch service on Wednesday, and will open for dinner service Aug. 21.
It’s the latest from the Three Muses chef an owner, who earlier this year closed the Maple Street spinoff to the Frenchmen Street eatery, and also runs the dried pasta line Esses Foods Nola.
[jump] The Rimon menu features an all-kosher spread with a healthy, farm-to-table and seasonal ethos, inspired largely by vegetarian, vegan, French, Korean and Israeli cuisines. The current lunch menu (available this week from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and next week from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.), features snacks like sweet potato fries, fried mushroom ravioli with marinara dipping sauce, and Korean-style chicken wings tossed in hot sauce served with house-made pickles.
Breakfast items include avocado toast topped with an over-easy egg, breakfast tacos, and banana and chocolate chip pancakes. Lunch dishes include a tomato panzanella tossed in balsamic dressing, a grilled peach salad served with pickled red onions, green olives and a honey-Dijon dressing, Gulf fish tacos with a “tangy” slaw, a brisket sandwich paired with horseradish aioli, pickled red onions and arugula on a house bun, and a shawarma plate served with couscous, vegetables and other salad bar fixings, among others.
The full menu will launch once the restaurant opens for dinner Aug. 21.
