Elton John performs Dec. 6 at the Smoothie King Center.

Elton John will bring his three-year farewell tour to New Orleans in December 2018, part of a worldwide, 300-date schedule that marks his retirement from the stage.

“Performing live fuels me and I’m ecstatic and humbled to continue to play to audiences across the globe,” he said in a statement. “I plan to bring the passion and creativity that has entertained my fans for decades to my final tour. After the tour finishes, I’m very much looking forward to closing off that chapter of my life by saying farewell to life on the road. I need to dedicate more time to raising my children.”

John performs Thursday, Dec. 6 at the Smoothie King Center. Tickets are $46.50-$221.50 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2. Presales are open Tuesday, Jan. 30 though 10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31.

The artist performed at the 2015 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, attracting one of the largest crowds at the Fairgrounds that year, and he headlined the Smoothie King Center in 2014, breaking his decade-plus absence from the city with a nearly three-hour-long set.
