The always entertaining and sometimes informative MarignyBywater listserv is all aflutter over a rash of armed robberies along the Chartres corridor: since the beginning of August, three incidents have been reported in blocks 2300-2600 alone. It seems as if the increased police presence on NOLA streets in recent weeks has had little to no effect on its desired demographic. Meanwhile, armed robberies citywide were up 46 percent in the first quarter of 2008 compared to 2007, according to the City of New Orleans' Web site — which, contrary to popular opinion, actually does keep track of this sort of thing. Another viable link: the NOPD contact site. Make it their problem, dude.
