It's hot. Really hot. Wouldn't riding your bike au naturel be refreshing?
You'll have your chance Sat. June 9, when the 10th annual New Orleans World Naked Bike Ride pedals out of Mickey Markey Park in the Bywater at 5 p.m., following an as-yet-undetermined route.
How bare can you get? "As bare as you dare," say organizers on the group's Facebook page, with this big caveat:
The ride is "as bare as you dare". You can wear as much or as little as you think you can get away with. Last year the police informed us that if they saw any male genitalia that they would be unhappy. While nobody was arrested, several people were warned. You are being warned now. Go as bare as you dare, but DO NOT FIGHT THE POLICE! It puts the ride in jeopardy for future years. While none of us are happy about it, if you are asked to cover, cover for as long as you are in the presence of officers. We are going to continue to try to work this out with the city.
Many of us (myself included) have been getting bolder and bolder over the years, and many people undress in the park as soon as they arrive. So far the police have said nothing about this, but if they do challenge us one of these years, please comply. Please bring something to cover your bits in the park just in case. Although no one has ever been arrested in ten years, New Orleans is NOT a nude friendly city.
The ride will be led by local burlesque favoriteTrixie Minx
, and there will be a clothing-optional afterparty at Mag's 940 bar in the Faubourg Marigny. Check here forthe bare facts on the ride
