Chef John Besh and Domenica's Chef Alon Shaya won't just be eyeing parsley and weighing shrimp at the Crescent City Farmers Market (700 Magazine St.) Saturday.

Besh will be greeting fans and signing copies of his most recent book, Cooking From the Heart: My Favorite Lessons Learned Along the Way, which pays homage to the chefs who inspired him through countless kitchens in his rise to fame. The signing is sponsored by Octavia Books. The bookstore's owner, Tom Lowenburg, says Besh's appointments at the market are always a hit. "He's always so affable," he says. "It's a beautiful book, and he says it's his favorite so far. He does a lot of storytelling."

Separate from Besh's book, Shaya, who's a CCFM board member, will be preparing Cavatelli with lamb Bolognese and basil, with tastes for shoppers. The market's new Executive Director, Kathryn Parker, will be his sous chef. Parker took up the post Dec. 1, and the event is a way to welcome Parker to the market family and meet and greet with market regulars.

There's also plenty for the kids of book buyers and lamb tasters. The market will host its monthly Marketeers activity Saturday, with holiday crafting for the little ones.
