Blue Dot Donuts (4301 Canal St., 504-218-4666) has cut ties to its Uptown franchise, the owners confirmed Thursday.
“The Uptown location has absolutely nothing to do with Blue Dot Donuts anymore,” said Ronald Laporte, one of the bakery’s three founding partners, all of whom are current or retired New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) officers.
The split was made official at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Laporte said, adding that he did not know what would happen with the Tchoupitoulas Street location but that the name and recipes used would have to change if the current owners plan to continue selling donuts.
[jump] Laporte said he couldn’t comment further but that there were “a lot of attorneys” involved and that he would release a statement once the details were ironed out.
Brandon Singleton, one of the three partners in the Blue Dot business, opened the Uptown franchise with his wife last year at 5236 Tchoupitoulas St. Singleton will remain a partner at the Mid-City location, Laporte said.
Singleton was not immediately available for comment but an employee at the business said the Uptown shop is currently called Uptown Donuts and that there are plans to expand the menu to include ice cream, milkshakes and possibly other pastries.
