Premiere: watch "Kaleidoscopes and Beach Scenes" from New Orleans electronic R&B duo 13 Dreams_lowres

Lafayette musician Jesse Zenon and New Orleans singer Justin Batiste first bonded over disco and electronic music, particularly Chic, Nile Rodgers and Daft Punk. The duo - new electronic R&B outfit 13 Dreams - wound up as a “melding of our two huge musical inspirations," Zenon says. "It was a huge moment.”

Before moving to New Orleans, Zenon studied jazz and blues at University of Louisiana Lafayette and played saxophone in a band. “When we broke up, I wanted to do a complete 180," he says. Last year, 13 Dreams self-released a debut album, Post Gospel Disco, bursting with dreamy R&B with surprising melodic turns, led by Batiste's layered falsetto and colorful synthesizers, pianos and percussion, and admittedly "not necessarily typical of New Orleans,” Zenon says.

Watch the music video for album centerpiece "Kaleidoscopes and Beach Scenes," directed by Yamil Rodriguez and edited by Michael Arcos, two New Orleans experimental filmmakers.
