Shaya named one of Bon Appetit’s best new restaurants_lowres

Shaya, the Israeli restaurant from chef Alon Shaya, was named one of Bon Appetit's Best New Restaurants of 2015.

Shaya  (4213 Magazine St., 504-891-4213), Alon Shaya’s Uptown Israeli stunner, has been named one of the country’s best new restaurants by Bon Appetit magazine.

The announcement on the magazine’s website lists Shaya in its "50 Nominees for America’s Best New Restaurants 2015." Staffers Andrew Knowlton and Julia Kramer compiled the list and Shaya is the only New Orleans restaurant to make the cut.

Alon Shaya recently garnered national accolades in May as the James Beard Foundation's Best Chef: South. At his Uptown restaurant, which he co-owns with John Besh, along with Domenica and Pizza Domenica, Shaya, who was born in Israel, pays homage to the contemporary cuisine of his homeland.

[jump] Mid-City Asian-inspired restaurant MoPho was the only New Orleans restaurant to make last year's list, but it was not included in the final top ten.

This year's winners, featured in the magazines's "Hot 10" will be announced Aug. 18.
