An 18-date "Blackest of the Black" tour stops in New Orleans in October with punk rock's horror-obsessed Roy Orbison, Glenn Danzig, with his namesake band, and Phil Anselmo and his metal supergroup Superjoint. The bands perform at the Civic Theatre on Friday, Oct. 9. Veil of Maya and Prong also are on the bill.
Following his run as singer for legendary horror punks The Misfits from the band's founding in the mid-'70s and into the '80s, Glenn Danzig formed the metal-influenced Samhain and Danzig - its 1988 debut featured the radio staple "Mother" and introduced a doomier, more rock 'n' roll sound with Danzig's instantly recognizable baritone. Danzig also is working on a cover album, Skeletons, featuring the band's takes on songs by Black Sabbath, the Everly Brothers, ZZ Top and others, as well as a full Danzig LP.
Superjoint - the hardcore- and black metal-influenced band formerly known as Superjoint Ritual and featuring Anselmo, Jimmy Bower and Kevin Bond - reunited last year after a decade hiatus. Anselmo told Rolling Stone earlier this year that the band might release an EP of new music in the near future.
Tickets are $35 and go on sale at 10 a.m. this Friday, Aug. 21.
