Listen: Sun Hotel's swan song Rational Expectations_lowres

Sun Hotel.

Before its final bow at its album release party this Saturday, New Orleans indie rock quartet Sun Hotel premiered its full-album stream of Rational Expectations (Community Records) via the Glasgow-based music website Gold Flake Paint. Click here to stream it.

Sun Hotel - led by songwriter and guitarist Tyler Scurlock with Native America's Ross Farbe and John St. Cyr (also of Woozy) and guitarist Alex Hertz - co-founded Community Records' sister label, Chinquapin Records, in 2010. The band released several well-received singles and EPs under its self-imposed post-gospel label, a huge-sounding, reverb- and harmony-filled brand of rock 'n' roll that filled concert halls and basement shows in New Orleans' DIY scene and around the U.S.

Rational Expectations - the band's first full-length release since 2010's Coast - glimpses heartland rock, jittery post-punk and glassy layers of guitars, anchored by Scurlock's earnest outpouring and triumphant hooks. Listen to "She's Gonna Take a Picture Too" below:

The band celebrates the album's release and its farewell at 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31 at One Eyed Jacks. The album is official out Feb. 3 via Community Records and Paco Tapes.
