Run The Jewels returns to New Orleans in October_lowres

Run The Jewels.

Following its breathless, fearless performance at the 2015 Buku Music + Art Project, the hypnotic lyrical titans of Run The Jewels (rappers Killer Mike and El-P) hit the road for their Jewel Runner tour this fall. Run The Jewels stops in New Orleans on Oct. 3 at Republic. Tickets are $27.50.

The duo earned unanimous critical acclaim for its 2014 album Run The Jewels 2, an unrelenting, pissed off, clever and bare-knuckled hip-hop masterwork featuring the longtime rappers at their creative peaks. Atlanta rapper Killer Mike - a social justice advocate and critic of police corruption and violence - also recently spoke to students at Dillard University and discussed race relations at a lecture at MIT.

Watch the recently released video for "Early," on which Mike raps, "It be feelin' like the life that I’m livin' man, I don't control / Like every day I’m in a fight for my soul / Could it be that my medicine’s the evidence / For pigs to stop and frisk me when they rollin' round on patrol?" Meanwhile, El-P's claustrophobic, paranoid day-to-day in the police and surveillance state mirrors Mike's more literal story about life under its thumb.
