No matter the cause, whenever there’s a fundraiser it seems you’ll find chefs and restaurateurs represented, helping provide the food and making the event successful. When the cause hits close to home, however, when it involves friends and contemporaries in their own field, the outpouring from the culinary community is extra special.
The latest example is coming together June 15, with a benefit for the family of chef Quan Tran, who died last month at age 44 from cancer, leaving behind a wife and their three children.
Tran worked for many years with chef Dominique Macquet, who is hosting the fundraiser at his latest project Saveur (4138 Magazine St., 504-304-3667; saveurnola.com). He’ll be joined by an impressive roster of chefs and restaurateurs from across the city, each serving a different dish at stations for guests to tour around the dining room.
The chefs include Rene Bajeux and Gus Martin from Dickie Brennan’s restaurant group; Jerry Harkins, sous chef of Clancy’s; Brian Landry of Borgne; Tory McPhail of Commanders Palace; Danny Millan of Cava; Trent Osborne of Upperline; Alon Shaya of Shaya and Domenica; Michael Sichel of Galatoire’s; and David Slater of Emeril’s.
The ticket is all-inclusive for the three hour event, which includes cocktails, courtesy of Neal Bodenheimer and Kirk Estopinal of Cure, Abigail Gullo of Compère Lapin and Michael Glassberg of Restaurant R’Evolution, and wine from local label Moises Vineyard & Wines. An auction includes many items from the Saints and Pelicans, local artists and many others.
Tickets are $75 and are available at Saveur by cash or check.
