Jazz icon Buddy Bolden film project issues call for 'extras' on set _lowres

A production company is looking for extras to fill in as background actors in a film about jazz great Buddy Bolden, said Bill Marinella of Marinella Hume Casting.

“Because it’s a period piece, we would need background actors to get in full hair and makeup, and they get a costume built just for them,” Marinella wrote in the call for extras. “It’s absolutely a ‘kick it off the bucket list’ kind of thing and no experience is necessary.”

Music for the film, called “Bolden!” was composed by Wynton Marsalis, who is also an executive producer.

Aspiring extras should come to the JW Marriott Hotel on Canal Street on Friday, Nov . 21, between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. for photos and measurements. No appointment is necessary, Marinella said. Extras will be paid and receive breakfast and lunch.

The film originally starred actor Anthony Mackie and was shot over a period of seven years. Mackie dropped out, so much of it is being reshot.

The film now stars Gary Carr and Ian McShane. Dan Pritzker is the director and Steve Martini and Derek Martini are writers.
