Tipitina’s summertime Free Fridays concert series is underway, with free shows presented by Tipitina’s Foundation. This week, a trio of brass bands will perform — the tradition-minded Treme Brass Band, the New Breed Brass Band, and the all-female Pinettes Brass Band, who were last seen at Jazz Fest escorting Arcade Fire off the Acura Stage and into the crowd as the band made an effort to second line through the crowd.

The Jazz and Heritage Foundation has divorced its Louisiana Cajun Zydeco Festival from the French Market Creole Tomato Festival. This year they’re a week and a French Quarter apart, with the festival now at Armstrong Park.

The Louisiana Cajun Zydeco Festival continues to present quality lineups, including Buckwheat Zydeco and Geno Delafose on Saturday, and Lost Bayou Ramblers and BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet and Jo-El Sonnier on Sunday. The event is free.

Playing for Change presents street musicians from around the world unified by music. On the project’s recordings, players on different continents are pulled together via studio technology to perform well-known unity anthems together. In concert, the band that includes New Orleans’ Grandpa Elliot, grooves with soul.
