ORIGINAL TUXEDO: Sally Newhart will discuss and sign her book, “The Original Tuxedo Jazz Band,” at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Garden District Book Shop, 2727 Prytania St. Newhart is a small business owner in New Orleans and was a close friend of former Tuxedo Jazz Band leader the late Bob French.

Born in 1910, the band has punctuated jazz history and produced some of the most memorable musicians of the past century: Bob French, Albert French, William Ridgley, Octave Crosby, Louis Armstrong and more.

The book traces Roy’s journey from his childhood in New Roads through his priesthood to the 37 years that he spent as pastor of Holy Spirit Catholic Church on the West Bank.
