New Orleans — Tulane University economics professors will hold a roundtable discussion at noon Thursday at Rogers Memorial Chapel on Gov. Bobby Jindal’s call to lawmakers to eliminate the state personal income tax and corporate income and franchise taxes.
Tulane economics professors will provide an overview of what eliminating the income tax means for residents, highlighting the key issues and controversies, according to a news release.
The roundtable is free and open to the public.
James Alm, professor and chairman of economics; Murphy Institute Director Steven Sheffrin; economics professor Nora Lustig; and Samuel Z. Stone, professor of Latin American economics, are the panelists.
The scholars will highlight state tax structures generally and economic competitiveness as well as the consequences of shifting tax bases on inequality and income distribution.
