A man offering to help people with apparent car problems was robbed early Saturday morning near the Garden District in New Orleans, according to police.

Around 4 a.m. near the corner of Magazine and Josephine streets, a 39-year-old man stopped to offer to help people in a stopped vehicle, according to preliminary information from police.

The driver then produced a gun and demanded the man's wallet and cell phone. There was no money in the wallet, police said, so the driver gave it back and fled with the man's cell phone.

No other details were provided.
