The New Orleans Book Festival, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, has been canceled because of expected bad weather, festival organizers said Wednesday.
“A safe, family-friendly atmosphere remains our top priority, and the expected weather will unfortunately prevent us from meeting that standard,” the festival said on its website, nolabookfest.org.
The festival canceled all events at Big Lake in City Park and an outdoor concert by Young Audiences scheduled for Friday night on the lawn of the Latter Branch Library on St. Charles Avenue.
In an effort to encourage literacy, the event has given away 45,000 books in the past five years.
The next book festival will be in fall 2016.
