The Jefferson Parish Council of Garden Clubs, along with District II of the Louisiana Garden Club Federation, held a reception and meeting recently for the garden clubs of Jefferson, St. Charles, St. John the Baptist and St. James parishes.
The garden clubs will emphasize the role of pollinators such as honeybees, butterflies and hummingbirds during the 2015-17 time period. A number of pollinators are becoming endangered because of pesticides, predators and climate change.
The clubs will hold seminars and lectures on growing plants that feed the pollinators and to educate government agencies, civic associations and the general public about the importance of these creatures and the consequences of losing them. Plant sales and seed exchanges will also be held to assist gardeners in growing plants that attract pollinators.
