New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu maintained Wednesday that he's not going to divulge a timeline for removing the remaining Confederate monuments in the city.

"What drives what we're gonna do and how we're gonna do it is safety," he said.

Landrieu also stuck with his "sooner rather than later" response when pressed on a timeline.

Landrieu also took time Wednesday to applaud New Orleans police for keeping the public safe during protests.

A Civil District Court judge has ruled that New Orleans can go forward with the removal of the monument to Confederate Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard near City Park, denying a request to stall the move over questions about whether the city really owns the statue.
