Washington — A woman who went from the staff of former New Orleans District Attorney Eddie Jordan in her home town to high-ranking communications jobs in the federal government will take over as Justice Department spokeswoman under new Attorney General Loretta Lynch.

The appointment of Melanie Roussell Newman was reported in Politico.

Newman also served on the staff of former New Orleans Congressman Bill Jefferson. She also worked for the House Judiciary Committee and the Democratic National Committee, Politico reported, as well as for the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development and the Office of Management and Budget.
