The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a possible double shooting that left one man dead and a woman injured in Marrero late Saturday.

Around 10:38 p.m., a JPSO deputy heard gunshots while patrolling the area of Acre Road in Marrero, agency spokesman Col. John Fortunato said in a news release. While responding, the deputy heard additional gunshots he believed to be coming from the 1200 block of Garden Road.

On Garden Road, the deputy was alerted to a man lying on the sidewalk in the 1200 block suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. A semi-automatic handgun was found next to the victim, Fortunato said.

The victim was transported to West Jefferson General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Around the same time Saturday, JPSO officers were dispatched to a shooting at Garden Road and Westbank Expressway, where they found a woman with a gunshot wound to the leg. She was transported to University Hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

Investigators believe the woman may have been at the scene at Garden Road when she was shot, Fortunato said. Witnesses reported hearing numerous gunshots.

A “substantial number” of shell casings were found in the area where the man was found, Fortunato said. Several shell casings were also found at Garden Road and Chenault Drive.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the JSPO homicide division at 504-364-5300 or Crimestoppers.
