ST. PAUL’S SENIOR CENTER: The St. Paul’s Homecoming Center, 1509 Filmore Ave., Gentilly has been rededicated as the St. Paul’s Senior Center. The center was dedicated in memory of Phillip James Jr., a longtime supporter of the St. Paul’s Homecoming Center.

The nonprofit Senior Center can accommodate up to 12 seniors a day. It is a place where seniors gather for friendship, a hot lunch and community service through the Seniors for Purposeful Living program. Some programs include packing emergency kits for the Red Cross and organizing bingo nights at nursing homes.

The center is open two days a week with plans to expand to three days.

The center was founded as a volunteer hub for Hurricane Katrina relief and has welcomed thousands of volunteers to the New Orleans area since 2006.
