A NOPD news release gave this account:

According to the 23-year-old victim, she noticed an unknown man following her near the intersection of Ursulines Avenue and Chartres Street. The victim said the man ran toward her from behind, threw her to the ground and sexually assaulted her at gunpoint.

After the attack, the victim said the suspect pointed the gun at her and told her to walk away. The victim walked toward nearby Decatur Street, where she located a police officer and reported the incident.

The victim described the suspect as a black male, mid to late 20s, slender build, shoulder length dreads, wearing a black hoodie and dark colored jeans with small silver revolver.

The person of interest is not a suspect at this time, police said, just a person who detectives would like to speak with regarding the case.

Police ask anyone with information on the identity or whereabouts of the person of interest to call Special Victims Section Detective Brandon McDonald at 504-312-1960, or call Crimestoppers at 822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
