The New Orleans public library system now has three extra months to find a new location for its Mid-City branch after owners of the American Can Building granted a reprieve Wednesday.

The local attorney for the building's Georgia-based owners, ACV VII LLC, notified WWL-TV that the library would now have until January 31, 2016, to vacate the space it has leased for the last five years.

The city of New Orleans says a "misunderstanding" caused it to fail to pay rent for the branch for a year.
