Photo provided by St. Francis Xavier St. Francis Xavier held its St. Joseph’s Day altar and reenacted the tradition known as “Tupa-Tupa” or “knocking.” Players represent Jesus, Mary and Joseph who go knocking door-to-door for food and shelter before finding the table, or altar, where they are the first to be served. Representing St. Joseph is Jeffrey Mechlin, a junior at Brother Martin High School, shown with altar coordinators Gail and Jack Siciliano.

TEMPLE SINAI BROTHERHOOD: The Temple Sinai Brotherhood will hold a dinner with a bingo game and silent auction at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at Temple Sinai, 6227 St. Charles Ave., New Orleans. TRAVELING NOVENA: In preparation for Pentecost, nine days of services will be held at churches throughout the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Each night will include a Eucharistic healing service, testimony, songs of praise and opportunity for individual prayer. The celebration of the Mass is not included. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL: “Come and See” will be the theme for vacation Bible school from 9 a.m. to noon July 20-24 at St. Charles United Methodist Church, 1905 Ormond Blvd., Destrehan. Children from kindergarten through sixth grade will be immersed in inspiring stories and activities that will allow them to experience the gifts of the Holy Spirit and the means of grace. The cost is $25 for the week, with an additional fee for before and after care. Registration forms are available at and at the church office. Youth and adult volunteers are being sought.
