A 23-year-old man has been arrested after he crashed his car through two fences at New Orleans’ Louis Armstrong International Airport and drove onto an active runway on Wednesday afternoon.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said Kaleb Clement, 23, was arrested and booked with one count of hit-and-run driving and one count of driving while intoxicated.
Around 1 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office said it received reports of a driver in a blue Dodge Challenger seen crashing through the airport’s northwest perimeter fence. The car then drove through airport property — including an active runway — before crashing through a fence on the northeast side of the facility.
Clement was captured at the nearby corner of Delaware Street and Veterans Memorial Boulevard, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Editor’s Note: The Sheriff’s Office initially said Clement abandoned his car on the airport runway, but the office later said that was not the case. This post has been updated to reflect the new information.
