New Orleans police on Thursday arrested a suspect in a fatal shooting last week in River Garden.

Bruce Brown, 23, faces charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault with a firearm, according to court records.

Brown is accused of killing Leonard Preston, 26, wounding one man and firing at a third about 6:45 p.m. on Sept. 26 in the 500 block of Josephine Street.

The shooting apparently stemmed from an argument Brown and another man were having with two men inside of an apartment unit, according to court documents.

Witnesses told police that Preston was standing in front of the apartment when two men rode up on what might have been a four-wheeler and fired several shots at him.

According to court documents, however, Brown and another man were arguing with two other men inside the apartment. As the argument escalated, Brown and the other man began to fire into the apartment, apparently as they ran out the door.

Preston was outside on the steps, according to court documents and neighbors who spoke to The New Orleans Advocate after the shooting. He was struck once and died a short time later at Interim LSU Public Hospital.

One of the men inside of the apartment was shot from behind, according to court documents. The other man was able to escape without being injured.

The second gunman remained at large on Friday. Brown remained behind bars with no bond set for his murder charge, according to court documents.
