A man stabbed two people Saturday afternoon in the French Quarter, police said.

George Jones, 54, allegedly stabbed two men, ages 29 and 39, after an argument about 2:30 p.m. in the 900 block of Decatur Street.

The wounds were not life-threatening.

Jones was booked on two counts of aggravated battery. His bail was set at $10,000.

Police: Man strangled woman in N.O. East

A man beat and strangled a woman in New Orleans East on Saturday after she rejected his sexual advances, according to police.

Police arrested Frank Diaz, 40, in the incident, which was reported about 7 a.m. in the 7700 block of Chef Menteur Highway.

According to police, Diaz returned home intoxicated and tried to have sex with the 52-year-old woman. When she refused, he beat her.

Later, he beat her again, strangled her and placed a plastic bag in her mouth, police said. She was able to get away when Diaz fell asleep.

She was taken to a hospital.

Diaz was booked on counts of attempted first-degree murder and extortion.

Four robbed Saturday in French Quarter

A man robbed four people Saturday night in the French Quarter, police reported. The incident happened about 11 p.m. in the 300 block of Burgundy Street.

The victims were entering their vehicle when a man with a gun forced his way into the back seat and demanded their money and property. After they complied, he fled.

The victims were two men, ages 22 and 26, and two women, 24 and 27.

Woman robbed Sunday in Central City

A woman was robbed at gunpoint in Central City early Sunday morning.

The incident happened about 5:30 a.m. at Louisiana Avenue and South Saratoga Street.

The woman, 21, was exiting her vehicle when a man put a gun to her back. He stole her purse before fleeing.

Man killed Sunday in traffic accident

A speeding driver was killed early Sunday in Lakeview when he lost control of his SUV on Canal Boulevard and smashed into a concrete pole, New Orleans police said.

The unidentified man was traveling south on Canal Boulevard about 5 a.m. “at a high rate of speed” when he lost control of his silver Buick Enclave near Homedale Street, NOPD spokeswoman Officer Hilal Williams said.

After crashing into the pole, the Enclave traveled into the northbound lane of Canal Boulevard and stopped. The man died at the scene.

Youth who removed monitor device caught

The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office on Sunday apprehended a juvenile offender who had removed his electronic monitoring device Thursday.

Philip Stelly, a spokesman for the office, said New Orleans police officers stopped the youth about 2:40 a.m. for a curfew violation.

At that time, they learned he had an arrest warrant for criminal damage to property and tampering with the monitoring device.

The officers took the youth, who was originally charged with simple assault, to the Youth Study Center, where juvenile offenders are held.

His name was withheld because he is a minor.

JPSO reports armed robbery, shooting

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office reported two major crimes over the weekend.

A man and a woman were victims of an armed robbery Saturday in the 4000 block of Wanda Lynn Drive in Metairie. They were not injured. The crime was reported about 8 p.m.

A man was shot late Saturday night on Dolores Drive in Westwego. He was taken to Interim LSU Hospital in unknown condition.
