Police link stabbing to fight between cousins

Harvey — A 25-year old Harvey man was stabbed at his mother’s home earlier this month after he and his cousin argued, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

An incident report from the Sheriff’s Office states that deputies only learned that the stabbing was linked to the argument after the victim initially lied and said he was robbed. The incident happened April 15 in the 1100 block of Tallow Tree Lane in Harvey. When deputies first interviewed the victim, he said he’d been stabbed while standing outside by an unknown man who ran off.

According to the incident report, the victim sustained eight different stab wounds in the incident, but as investigators began to probe the man’s story they found gaps. He couldn’t report exactly where the stabbing occurred, or explain why the robber didn’t steal his phone and wallet at the same time.

Investigators later learned from the man’s mother, who also lied to deputies, that he was stabbed by his cousin, Tanner Simmons, 32, but the victim declined to press charges against his cousin.
