Local poets Bobby Toomer, Clemonce Heard and Valentine Pierce will read from their work from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the Alvar Library, 913 Alvar St., New Orleans.
READY TO READ: Parents and caregivers can help children 5 and younger learn language skills with tips and hands-on parent-child activities that will be presented during the Every Child Ready To Read workshops at the Mid-City Library, 3700 Orleans Ave., New Orleans. The hour-long workshops will be at 10:30 a.m. and again at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13.
COMICS AND ZINES: The New Orleans Comics and Zines Fest will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Main Library, 219 Loyola Ave., New Orleans. Throughout the day, there will be presentations on newspaper history in New Orleans, information on starting and distributing a zine, a Photoshop tutorial, a screening of “Howl’s Moving Castle,” a puppet show in a special Kids Zone, and several musical performances. Artists and writers will have tables of their work for sale or for trade. Attendees are encouraged to interact with the comic and zine creators and bring things they’ve made to trade and share.
