Man arrested in Ga. in link to N.O. murder

Police in Georgia have arrested a man in connection with the murder of Ahmad Sheppard, 33, a New Orleans DJ who was shot to death in his Prytania Street apartment in June 2013.

According to a statement from the NOPD, 25-year-old Travis Cochran was arrested in Banks County, Georgia, on Oct. 29 after a traffic stop.

Cochran and an accomplice allegedly had bound and gagged Sheppard at his house before forcing him into a neighbor’s home, where they shot him. He died at the scene.

Detectives identified Cochran as one of the suspects and obtained an arrest warrant for him for first-degree murder.

Cochran allegedly gave a false name during the traffic stop but was identified through fingerprints.

He is being held by the Gwinnett County Police Department. The NOPD is working with the District Attorney’s Office to have him extradited.

Cochran has more than 10 previous arrests, four for felonies.

The second suspect in the case has yet to be identified.

Police seek unknown robber of restaurant

New Orleans police are searching for an armed man who robbed a Subway restaurant in the 2700 block of South Claiborne Avenue on Tuesday.

The man entered the store about 8:20 p.m., possibly with a sawed-off shotgun, police said. After taking money from the cashier, he fled.

The suspect was described as a short black man with dreadlocks. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a black bandana that he used to cover his face.

Police searching for man wanted in fraud

New Orleans police are searching for a man wanted in credit card fraud.

According to a statement from police, a truck was burglarized in the 1800 block of Mandeville Street on Nov. 5 and the victim’s credit cards were stolen.

Calvin C. Craig Jr., 34, later used one of the cards at the Mardi Gras Truck Stop at 2401 Elysian Fields Ave.

Missing Delgado student found

A missing Delgado Community College student was located Wednesday afternoon, according to New Orleans police.

The woman, 19-year-old Shroq Aziz, failed to return home from class on Monday. Her parents called police after they found her car still parked at Delgado.

Police said “no foul play” was involved in the woman’s disappearance.

Two aggravated rapes reported Tuesday

Two aggravated rapes involving juveniles were reported Tuesday, according to police records.

A juvenile girl in the 1700 block of Agriculture Street reported she was assaulted by her father when she was 5.

The father does not live with the girl, according to police.

A female juvenile in the 2300 block of New Orleans Street told police she was raped about one month ago by a family friend.

It was unclear if anyone was arrested in either assault.

Man carjacked after midnight in N.O. East

A man was carjacked early Wednesday morning in New Orleans East, according to police records.

The incident happened a few minutes past midnight at Dwyer and Downman roads.

According to police, the victim was walking back to his vehicle at a gas station when he was approached by a man armed with a gun.

The carjacker took the man’s car keys and fled in his 2004 gold Chevy Impala.

Man shot in Harvey on Wednesday

A man was shot Wednesday morning in Harvey, according to records from the Jefferson Parish 911 headquarters. The shooting happened about 9 a.m. in the 2900 block of Manhattan Boulevard.

The man’s injuries were not life-threatening.
