Slidell police find cache of guns, drugs
SLIDELL —Police on Friday recovered stolen firearms, assault rifles, body armor and drugs from a Slidell man’s home.
Police booked Christopher Bass, 24, on several counts after they found the items in his home while executing a search warrant related to a rash of home and vehicle burglaries in Slidell, said Detective Daniel Seuzeneau, a Police Department spokesman.
Slidell police detectives received information about Bass being in possession of a stolen firearm as well as several assault rifles, Seuzeneau said.
Police found a stolen Springfield .40-caliber handgun, an AK-47 assault rifle, an SKS assault rifle (the Russian version of an AK-47), body armor, a ballistic helmet, narcotics and drug paraphernalia in Bass’ home in the 2700 block of Carey Street, Seuzeneau said.
Police discovered that the Springfield .40-caliber handgun was stolen in a recent vehicle burglary in Slidell. Investigators are still trying to locate the owner or owners of the assault rifles, body armor and ballistic helmet.
Bass was booked with possession of a stolen firearm, three counts of illegal carrying of a weapon, unlawful use of body armor, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Mid-City home burglarized Friday
NEW ORLEANS — Two men burst into a Mid-City home late Friday, armed themselves with a shotgun they found inside the residence and then robbed one occupant, police said.
The burglary was reported about 11:45 p.m. at a home in the 3500 block of Banks Street, according to a daily police log.
The victims — a 77-year-old man, a 72-year-old woman and a 51-year-old woman — were inside the home when two men came through the front door and went upstairs. The men began to search the home, found a shotgun and then robbed one of the women of her purse.
Police did not provide a description of the robbers.
Gentilly homicide victim identified
NEW ORLEANS —A man who was shot while he drove on Elysian Fields Avenue in Gentilly last week was identified as a Kenner man.
Police found Zachery Carpenter, 30, inside a car that hit a tree in the 4500 block of Elysian Fields Avenue about 10:50 p.m. Friday, authorities said.
Paramedics arrived on the scene and pronounced Carpenter dead, said Officer Garry Flot, a New Orleans Police Department spokesman.
Carpenter died from a gunshot wound to his head, said John Gagliano, the Orleans Parish coroner’s chief investigator.
Police have not released any information on a suspect or motive.
Algiers man cut during argument
NEW ORLEANS — A 33-year-old man was cut in the head, face and shoulder during an argument with two friends, police said.
The victim and two women began to argue at about 11:50 p.m. Friday in the 3900 block of Jennifer Street in Algiers, according to a daily police log. One of the women grabbed a knife and cut the victim.
Doctors treated the victim at Interim LSU Public Hospital. Police did not provide his condition, nor did they say if they made any arrests in the case.
Man shot Saturday on Central City street
NEW ORLEANS — A man was shot early Saturday in Central City, police said.
The 34-year-old victim was standing in the 2100 block of South Claiborne Avenue about 4:30 a.m. when an unknown man walked up to him and shot him, police said.
The victim was treated at Interim LSU Public Hospital for a graze wound to his lower right thigh.
Man shot on porch of Central City home
NEW ORLEANS — Police are investigating a shooting that injured a man as he stood on his porch Sunday.
The 22-year-old victim was standing on the porch of his home in the 2900 block of St. Andrew Street in Central City when he heard gunfire at about 12:25 p.m. The victim then felt a “sharp pain” and collapsed on the porch, police said.
Police did not provide any information on a suspect or motive.
