Kenner police said two men bailed out of a car and abandoned their children after a brief police chase following a narcotics stop about 6:45 p.m. Monday.

Spokesman Lt. Brian McGregor said that detectives pursued Ron Adams, 35, of Kenner, and Corey Daniels, 39, of LaPlace, to the corner of North Howard and Shirley streets in Metairie, where the men left their vehicle with its engine running and door open. Daniels was taken into custody after a foot chase and was found to have 5.9 grams of heroin, police said, but Adams escaped.

Inside the car, police said, were two boys aged 2 and 4. Both children were crying for their fathers and were later released to other family members, police said.

Daniels has been booked on possession with the intent to distribute heroin and criminal abandonment. An arrest warrant has been obtained for Adams on a count of criminal abandonment.
