Update, 10:15 a.m. Thursday: A missing 14-year-old girl from Slidell was found late Wednesday in Jefferson Parish, officials said.

Slidell police had been searching for the girl, Jania Washington, 14, for over a week after she was reported missing Oct. 20.

Detectives determined that she was in the New Orleans area, and she was found at an apartment complex in Metairie, police said.

Police suspected that Washington had run away and did not suspect foul play, but were concerned because of her young age, Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith said.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing because several people helped Washington during her disappearance, police said.
