NEW ORLEANS — An unidentified man died in a hit-and-run at 8 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of South Claiborne Avenue and Amelia Street, police said.
The pedestrian was crossing the eastbound lanes of South Claiborne when he was struck by a dark gray Chevrolet Avalanche, New Orleans police Officer Hilal Williams said in a news release.
The driver of the Avalanche drove off with possible front-end damage and was last seen traveling toward the lake on Louisiana Parkway, Williams said.
The victim died on the way to a hospital and blood and alcohol tests are pending, Williams said.
The crash is still under investigation and the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, Williams said.
