NOPD officer suspended after arrest

New Orleans police Officer James Cunningham was placed on emergency suspension without pay after he was arrested Tuesday in a domestic incident, the NOPD said.

A 35-year-old woman told police that Cunningham kicked down the door of her home in the 500 block of Patterson Drive and injured her hand about 4:30 a.m.

Cunningham, an eight-year-veteran of the force, was most recently a member of the Investigation and Support Bureau.

Members of the Public Integrity Bureau arrested Cunningham on counts of simple battery and home invasion.

Police arrest one for CBD robbery

Police arrested one of two men sought in an armed robbery that occurred early Tuesday morning in the 700 block of Carondelet Street.

The 28-year-old victim was walking about 1 a.m. when two men stopped him. One — identified by police as Eric McBride, 43­ — came up on a bike, while the second man came up behind the victim.

McBride allegedly demanded the victim’s valuables while the second man pointed a gun at him. They fled with the victim’s IPhone 5, wallet and watch.

Police canvassing the area after the incident said they found McBride crouched behind a vehicle and arrested him on a count of armed robbery after the victim identified him. He had the victim’s watch and phone, police said.

Detectives are looking into McBride’s possible involvement in other local robberies, according to a police release.

The second man remains at large.

Three robbed in the French Quarter

A man robbed three people in the French Quarter early Tuesday morning, police said.

About 12:30 a.m., two women, ages 22 and 19, and a man, 20, were walking in the 800 block of Iberville Street when a man approached them with a gun.

He fled with the man’s wallet.

Suspect nabbed in two burglaries

New Orleans police arrested a teenager and booked him on two residence burglaries and other counts.

On Jan. 7 an officer saw a vehicle that matched the description of an SUV sought in a Jan. 5 burglary in the 6300 block of Perlita Street. The officer found the vehicle had been reported stolen.

The vehicle was found unoccupied in the 1800 block of Brutus Street, but the officer said he saw Jeremy Crader, 18, walk away and throw away a bag that later turned out to have a handgun and marijuana inside.

After Crader was arrested, the police found the vehicle contained items stolen in the burglary on Perlita Street and another burglary a day earlier in the 7400 block of Jade Street.

Crader was booked on two counts of burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle and other counts.

Two felons caught after vehicle chase

New Orleans police arrested convicted felons Dominick Scott, 21, and Brandon Hartford, 26, Monday night after a vehicle chase that began near Earhart Boulevard and Pine Street.

Officers said they saw a 2014 Ford Fusion disregard a stop sign about 10 p.m. The driver refused to stop and officers pursued it to the 2500 block of Broadway, where Hartford fled on foot. He was then seen discarding a handgun that was later recovered. The vehicle continued before crashing into the neutral ground, where the remaining two occupants fled.

After a search, Scott and Hartford were apprehended; the driver remains at large.

Scott is on probation for aggravated battery until 2018. He was booked on being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana and a probation violation.

Hartford is on probation for possession of cocaine until 2017. He was booked on illegal carrying of weapons, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and a probation violation.
