Rising water levels have temporarily closed Spillway Road in the Bonnet Carre Spillway in St. Charles Parish.
The two-lane stretch, which connects Montz and Norco, was closed after water began pouring onto the road, said Renee Allemand Simpson, a parish spokeswoman.
The road will be closed until further notice, Simpson said. The alternate route is Airline Highway.
The road is typically closed for a few months every spring, Simpson said. There are no plans to open the spillway itself.
Heavy rainfall in the central U.S. and the Ohio River valley has caused water levels to rise throughout the Mississippi River. The water level at the Carrollton gauge in New Orleans was 13.33 feet Wednesday.
